Serving Up Success

Having first met over twenty years ago whilst working in the world of professional tennis, Annabel Bunch and Annabel Jefferson decided to partner up in 2013 and have since established a successful PA support business. Here they talk about their business, how they have responded to the challenging conditions that we have all been faced with over the last year and how they continue to adapt their business.

Q1: What was the idea behind ‘annabel’?

AB: when a young family re-shaped my life in 2002 and technology was just beginning to allow for more flexibility, I started working privately for clients, supporting them with their personal administration from their home offices (a long time before they were the norm!). It was lovely to see my clients focus on their lives outside the paperwork and I recognised the niche in the market for offering people the gift of time. In 2013, Annabel J decided to look at a new career path outside of professional tennis and we established ‘annabel’; it’s great we are back working together as a team.

Q2: How does your service stand out vs the many virtual assistants that have popped up?

AJ: When we started our business, all our work was on-site with our clients and we recognise that has been a big factor in helping us to build and retain strong professional relationships with our clients based on trust, discretion and respect. Since March 2020, the balance of home v remote working has altered but we try, as regulations allow, to see our clients in person as often as possible. We are particularly aware that right now people are having to make life-changing decisions through no fault of their own and we totally empathise with this and are available to provide practical (and emotional) support; something which would have been far harder to achieve had we been a solely virtual service.

Q3: How have you and your team adapted your business during the pandemic?

AJ: We are fortunate that we have developed long term and trusting relationships with our clients which has meant we have been able to have an open and honest dialogue with them throughout. Our clients have continued to be supported by our wonderful team of ‘annabel’ consultants who have creatively adapted to their clients’ needs. We have also had the opportunity to develop areas of self-contained project work including home move and legacy planning services as well as virtual support for clients wanting to curate and digitise their personal photograph and art collections.

AB: The pandemic has given us the opportunity to take a moment and focus on investing time in our team and building the ‘annabel’ brand. We have established regular operational team calls and had some fabulous guest speakers in our annabel power hours. We have also set ourselves a target to engage with our social media audiences and ironically, we have had more enquiries this January than in previous years.

Q4. Working from home obviously presents challenges, how do you relax outside of the ‘office’?

AB: In my spare time I enjoy trail running, cold water swimming and spending time with my family and friends. I used to love going to the cinema as well!

AJ: I enjoy gardening and have a passion for tennis which I play regularly and can’t wait to get back on court once this lockdown is over!
